Uti Nwachukwu Dishes Out Advise On Body Odour, See What He Said!

TV host, Model, Actor and former Big Brother Africa Winner is definitely not happy with some of his compatriots, who according to him 'smell'
In the words of Uti, here's what you must know about body smell, quite interesting I must say;
Yes, my fellow Nigerians. Quite a number of you smell. Be it body or mouth odour but it has become a threat to social existence in our society because some of you are so selfish and too wicked to bother about personal hygiene. Only money money money una de think? It's not fair ooooo.
Come on people, do you know that the way you smell can even favour or be bad luck to you when you are trying to get employed?
I know of a model that was hot and when the designer asked her to try on the clothes, the minute she took her top off. The designer "change face" and said "you know what, I've changed my mind, your agency will get back"
And to the 'bros' out there, who think its 'manly' to have all the hair in Africa in their armpit, this one is for you, with love from Uti;
Brosiyeeeeeee. Shave your pits. Nigeria is too hot, plus no matter what you say, hairy armpits are unsightly. And invest in really strong antiperspirants. Abeg, for the sake of your friends and girlfriends. It's quite embarrassing to tell you but trust me, if you have armpit hair in Nigeria you do smell after a while and people just don't want to tell you.
Do you agree with him or do you think he was too harsh??

Jesus Christ Appears in British Toilet Room

An unusual depiction of the son of God appeared in one of the old British houses, at least, Freda Murphy, the owner of the house, says so.
The portrait of Jesus Christ appeared in one of the old houses in Great Britain
The 52-year-old woman let journalists into her house to show the face of Jesus Christ on her newly-laid toilet floor. The woman spotted the outline of a face she believes to be Jesus Christ after taking photographs while renovating her 100-year-old home.
"When I looked at the image it sent a shiver down my spine. A lot of people have said it looks like Jesus."
Freda also complained about extraordinary phenomena including ghosts and dead babies cries since they moved here in 19 years ago. According to Freda, the imprint showing Jesus Christ has a tear falling from its right eye.
Speaking about the day of appearance of Jesus Christ's portrait, Freda says,"We'd just had the floor laid down and I was taking a picture for my solicitor. When I looked at the image it sent a shiver down my spine. I could make out eyes, a nose, mouth, long hair and beard. A lot of people have said it looks like Jesus."

Suspected cattle rustler, DPO escape lynching in Zamfara

Suspected cattle rustler, DPO escape lynching in Zamfara

A suspected cattle rustler, who was arrested by youths in Zamfara State has escaped lynching, Daily Trust gathered.
It was further gathered that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to Birnin Magaji Local Government Area and the head of the cattle market in Nassarawa Godel village in Zamfara State, were also attacked in their attempt to rescue the suspect.
Daily Trust gathered that the youths, armed with guns, cutlasses and other weapons stormed the market following information that a suspected cattle rustler had been arrested.
Following the intervention of the duo, the youths, it was gathered, set ablaze stalls belonging to the head of the cattle market.
A witness, Ibrahim Aliyu, told Daily Trust that the incident caused traders to flee the market.
But spokesman of the state police command, DSP Lawal Abdullahi, said the victim was not a cattle rustler.
"The man attacked by the youths brought his cattle to the market to sell because most of his animals had been rustled. The youths just took the law into their hands and attacked an innocent man. Let me stress the fact that vigilante members are not helping matters, because of their unlawful executions. The situation is unacceptable," he said.
He added that security agents have been deployed to the area to fish out the perpetrators, adding that anyone found wanting would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

"Nigeria needs credible leadership to navigate out of this quagmire," it added.
More medical students get Media Trust scholarship

More medical students get Media Trust scholarship

Another set of 10 female medical students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, have been awarded scholarship by Media Trust Limited, publisher of Daily Trust, Weekly Trust, Sunday Trust and Aminiya newspapers.
The scholarship scheme, which has been on for over seven years, is aimed at supporting girl child education in the country.
It is also aimed at motivating female students to study courses, which were hitherto preserved for their male counterparts.
Each beneficiary was presented with a cheque of N100,000.
Last week, the company was at the University of Ilorin, where it also awarded scholarship to ten female medical students. The same gesture will be replicated at the University of Maiduguri on October 13.
A senior staff of the university, Professor Bello Bada, who spoke at the event, urged other corporate bodies to emulate the gesture, which he described as a "rescue mission for the weaker ones."
He said if other corporate organizations could do same, Nigeria would be a better place.
"What Media Trust is doing is what we expect of them; giving back what to the public. I was around when this programme was launched here about seven years ago. I was the Master of Ceremony and my prayer then was that it should be sustained; Alhamdulillah, it has continued," he said.
Provost of the college, Professor Isma'ila Mungadi, who was represented by Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Science, Professor Shu'aibu Bello, described the award as "well thought out".

Why I leased my jet, by Ayo Oritsejafor

Ayo Oritsejafor President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Pastor Ayo Oristejafor yesterday reiterated that he is not a party to the $9.3 million arms cash saga even though he owns the jet that ferried the money to South Africa earlier this month.
He also explained that he leased the jet in "order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft."
Oritsejafor was speaking at an emergency meeting of the expanded National Executive Council (NEC) of CAN in Abuja, but his speech was emailed to reporters in Kaduna through the Secretary General of CAN, Reverend Musa Asake.
"So far, I have refrained from making any direct public response pending the time I will brief the leaders of the church and explain my position on the issue to them," he said.
"I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church. I thank everyone who has stood by me these past days even though I have not undertaken any public defence of myself.
"I am particularly appreciative of the valuable support of the Catholic Church in refuting a distorted news item by mischievous elements in the media. I wish to also assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of God."
He said, "I wish to confirm to the leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine and it was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners worldwide at the 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry.
"The aircraft was not given to me by the president of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage.
"Permit me therefore to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today that I am not a party to the movement of $9.3 million from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunitions. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.
"In order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in and out of Nigeria and it was based on this that I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014 to a company to run it.
"It was the leasee that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me. It is clear that those who manipulated this conspiracy desire to create schism in the church," he said.
He appealed to Christian leaders to caution their followers from making public statements that are capable of polarising the church and strengthening its enemies.
Oritsejafor also urged Christians to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian church.
"It is clear that the media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the church are at work," he said.
"As Christians, we need unity in the church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country while Christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds.
"If we permit the enemy to divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened."
According to CAN secretary Asake, the five main blocks of CAN were represented at the meeting, including Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, TEKAN/ECWA, Christian Council of Nigeria and Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

Obasanjo’s Step Daughter Joins Lagos Governorship Race

Mrs Adetokunbo Tobun-Agbesanwa, the step daughter of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is set to contest the Lagos governorship elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The stepdaughter of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo is following in his footsteps with a foray into politics.
Mrs Adetokunbo Tobun-Agbesanwa is the daughter of Major Moji Adekunle-Obasanjo and Chief Adekunle Tobun and she is set to contest the 2015 Lagos governorship elections.
The intending candidate is currently a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and she is set to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She spoke about her aspirations in an interview with Tribune Newspaper,
Excerpts below:
How did your parents influence your involvement in politics?
My parents played a great role in my development and my passion for politics. I wanted to study law but found myself studying political science.
My father, Chief Adekunle Tobun's activities during the Third Republic, when he contested for the gubernatorial primaries and the campaigns then, gave me a lot to learn and think about.
My late mother, Major Moji Adekunle-Obasanjo, gave me all the support and opportunity to utilise my knowledge and, at every instance, continued to boost my self-esteem. I am very lucky to have such great personalities as parents.
Women in politics are often considered as wayward and are often abused by their male counterparts.
How has your experience been so far? What are your regrets?
There is no gainsaying the fact that in our society, women have great obstacles in attaining political positions.
These are socio-economic factors rather than physical.
There have been arguments that women themselves frustrate the chances of their colleagues at securing elective offices, while another argument is that male politicians manipulate the system to the detriment of women.
In many cases, women are discouraged by late night meetings and women who attend have been labeled prostitutes.
I believe, however, that politics is not the only arena where we have wayward women or sexual harassment. It pervades the society; schools, the corporate world – everywhere.
Politics is an aspiration to serve; it is not do or die.
What gives you the impression that the time is ripe for a female governor in Lagos State, given its political sophistication, ethnic heterogeneity and the historical reality of male dominance in Lagos politics?
I could go on and on in answering this. But, I will try my best to summarise the issues.
First, as with any endeavour or responsibility, the eligibility of any individual aspiring for any job or position is measured by his credentials and suitability for the job.
The constitution provides that a person shall be eligible for the office of governor if he or she is a citizen of Nigeria by birth, at least 35 years of age; is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party.
There is no provision for gender discrimination in this article.
Consequently, I believe I even have more than enough requirements for the job.
Women's participation in politics – not only in Lagos State but in Nigeria – has been very poor due to a lot of factors that have nothing to do with the physical constitution of the female gender.
That is the reason I truly identify with my party, the APC, which has as its slogan, 'change.'

Why Nigeria has not defeated terrorism – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said terrorism and kidnapping were still major national challenges because Nigerians had not united against them as they did against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
Jonathan made the statement at an inter-denominational church service at the National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to mark the country's 54th Independence Anniversary coming up on Wednesday.
He said the country was able to fight and defeat the deadly Ebola disease because Nigerians united against the virus irrespective of political persuasion, religion or ethnic origin.
"Take the case of Ebola for example; this is a good example all Nigerians must learn from. When Patrick Sawyer brought Ebola to Nigeria, it was in Lagos that this incidence happened and in terms of politics, Lagos is an opposition party state but the central government is the ruling party. From Lagos Ebola moved to Rivers State, also opposition party state. But because all Nigerians fought Ebola irrespective of political persuasion, irrespective of religion, irrespective of ethnicity, as individuals we defeated the disease," he said.
In his sermon, the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oristejafor, said that most of the challenges confronting the country were self-inflicted. (NAN)

Synagogue miracles are not fake - T.B Joshua releases statement

You know how one incident can destroy everything you've worked hard for all your life? Well, that's what's happening to Pastor T.B Joshua now. He has come under severe criticism and scrutiny following the collapse of a building inside his church premises that left more 115 people dead. Now, many people believe his miracles are not real. Yesterday, a South African journalist published a report where he rubbished all the miracles that supposedly happens at the Synagogue Church of All Nations.
"I challenged the pilgrims to provide me with medical proof that they had been healed. None did." journalist Jacques Pauw wrote..The church has reacted to the published report via their Facebook page, claiming that all their miracles are 100% real because they were performed before the church and broadcast live via their Emmanuel TV. See their statement after the cut...
The SCOAN released a public statement yesterday, September 26, 2014 regarding a false story published in The Vanguard Newspaper, "Synagogue: We Sealed Off Building Before Collapse – LSBCA" which was a total fabrication intended to divert people's attention from the issue at hand. The writer needs to be investigated concerning the building collapse.
To our surprise, a cover story with even greater fabrications was published today, September 27, 2014 in The Saturday Vanguard, "Are T.B. Joshua's Miracles Real?" The writer(s) fabricated names of people who do not exist and remained nameless and faceless in order to hide their evil intentions. They need to be investigated.
It is our belief that these stories were intended to divert people's attention from the evil that has been done. Those involved in these stories need to be investigated concerning the building collapse. If they are not directly involved, they will help the investigation. If they are not the ones who did it, they know those who did. Perhaps, they were involved in the building collapse because they claim what is happening in The SCOAN is fake. They are suspect.
Please note, all of The SCOAN services are public and broadcast live on Emmanuel TV.
Do not be misled and diverted from the truth. No matter how long a lie is sustained, the truth will someday prevail. Jesus is the Truth.

Bizzare: Meet Boy who Shed his Skin Like a Snake every 41 Days

An Indonesian boy suffering from a rare condition that leaves his skin dry and scaly has been dubbed 'snake boy' because he sheds his skin every 41 days.
Ari Wibowo, 16, has to smear himself with moisturiser every three hours and soak in water every hour to stop himself drying up and cracking.
The teenager suffers from Erythroderma, an inflammatory skin disease also known as red man syndrome, that causes the skin over his entire body to become scaly and flake off.
He also has problems with his speech and his vision in his right eye is impaired, while the other is constantly being treated with drops.
So far, doctors in Indonesia have been baffled by the disease, leaving his family to cope alone to manage the heartbreaking condition themselves.
As well as living with his reptile-like appearance, Ari also has to put up with cruel stares and suspicion from villagers, and children too terrified by his looks to play with him where he lives in Tangerang, in the province of Banten.
The schoolboy's incredible life has been captured by photographer Nurcholis Anhari Lubis, who studied the boy's condition as part of an essay project.
The 35-year-old describes the boy's skin as "scaly like a snake about to shed his skin", as he observed him at home, in the classroom and socialising with friends his own age.
He said: "It's really sad because he was not born normally and has scaly skin all over his body, similar to being severely burnt, from the sole of his feet up to his head," he told Daily Mail Australia.
"If the boy doesn't moisturise or soak his skin in water, his body would shrivel and harden up like a sculpture and he won't be able to move.
"If he leaves it unattended for too long, he won't be able to speak because the wrinkles inside his mouth would go hard and it would dry out all his blood in his body."

EXPOSED: See The Man Who Used Oritsejafor's Jet For Cash/Arms Deal, He's Highly Connected

Felix Idiga, The Second Man Behind The $9.3m Cash For Arms Scandal Exposed
In the South East part of Nigeria Felix Idiga is a well known man.
This is on account of his emergence as one of new breed billionaires from that region. That he is also close to the Christian Association of Nigeria president, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor might be stating the obvious. After all, the man of God sits on same board of about two companies with Idiga. One of such is Swat Nigeria and Eagle Air Nigeria.
Idiga, said to be the chief executive officer of JAFAC group, is into construction with the NDDC (Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC) as it's major customer. Those who know this fellow say he made chunk of his money through his association with the top shots of NDDC and major militants in the South-South. Sources say he was allegedly involved in oil bunkering along with emergency money bags like Scott Tommey and Delta based Ayeri.
Hence with the news broke that his name was traced to the funds scuttled by the South African police, those who know him well were not too surprised based on his antecedents. Of recent he dumped the Imo governor to pitch tent with the ruling party PDP just like Ali Modu Sheriff to pursue his senatorial ambition in IMO. According to the revelation, the private jet with a US registration number N808HG was one of two jets cited by South African officials on September 5 and is owned by Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. The second is a jet registered with the name Felix Idiga, the owner of Jafac Limited. Mr. Oritsejafor's jet arrived South Africa with $9.3 million cash loaded in several suitcases meant for the purchase of arms and ammunitions.
Investigations have confirmed that under the South African laws, a person entering or leaving the country is expected to carry cash not exceeding R25, 000 (about US$2, 300), or the equivalent in foreign currency notes. Also, arms usually involve a complex bank transfer system needed to move the money between the countries involved in the deal; they are rarely done in cash.
This contravention of the South African law and other laws governing the movement of cash and the purchase of arms and ammunitions proves that the intended transaction was illegal and is possibly intended to smuggle arms to Nigerian to continue to equip terrorists in the North, pirates and militants in the Niger Delta and other forms of insurgence in Nigeria.

9ice Says He Plans To Quit Music For Politics

In an interview with Sun News, 9ice says he plans to quit music to concentrate fully on politics because he can't be singing at 35. He can't?
What he said below…
Yes, I want to leave music for politics. Next year January, I will be 35-years-old and I'm not praying to still be in music at that age.
I am serious about politics now. If you listen to my music, you would notice that politics has been part of me; it's in my blood.
When I started initially, I talked about being your brother's keeper, and that's why I studied Law at Lagos State University before I dropped out to concentrate on my music career.
I hate when things go wrong. When two or three people are having issues, I love to get there to settle their differences.
I have passion for politics and it has always been in my blood."
If you go fully into politics, most of your friends and fans will miss you?
I will say they will love me more by the time they see the plans that I have for them.
I have so many plans on my mind. Imagine if the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was a politician, he will not just criticize the mistakes of our leaders but also correct them.
Imagine if Wole Soyinka was to be the president of this nation, people like him are only preaching the truth and criticising the government but they are not ready to get into politics to make corrections.
I am tired of preaching, I want to contribute my own quota for the sake of my people.
We have graduates riding commercial motorcycles (okada), selling meat etc, their certificates are not being used but they are shouting that the government is not doing well.
There can't be any change if the youths don't stand-up now to do something to help the country.

If Elected, I Will Not Go Into Office With Blonde Hair – Tony Tetuila

Singer Tony Tetuila, who is vying for a political post, says if elected into office, his blonde hair will be a thing of the past.
He said this while reacting to the recent backlash he received from fans for using his tinted hair for his campaign posters
"I am not going into office to sing, though I am an artiste, I am going to serve my people. I am not going to office with the tinted hair.
I was discussing with some youth leaders who said I could leave the hair but now that people are speaking on it, I have to do what my people want" he told tribune.
I only used the blonde hair to campaign because everybody knows Tetuila with that trademark" he said
Tetuila went further to state that he is not venturing into politics because he is broke
"How can I be broke? I am not broke, everybody knows where I am coming from.
I am not going into politics for the fun of it.
We artiste always sing about poverty but rarely do anything about it.
If you know songs like "prayer for Naija" and "e go better", you will see that we only complain but we don't do anything about the suffering.
We want Nigerians to live a better life.
What I am going to deliver matters and not the hair" he said

Tiwa Savage’s Husband, Tee Billz Turns Her Into Punching Bag Over Money – Their Marriage In Serious Trouble!

Tiwa Savage and her husband, Tunji 'Tee Billz' Balogun's wedding might be fading out gradually as different sources has affirmed that the 5-month-old husband, Tee Billz has turned her wife into punching bag, beating her up over money.
According to Kemi Filani, she reports:
Heard this last night but didn't put it up till I was able to do some little confirmations here and there…
Tiwa Savage and Tunji Balogun's marriage is heading for the rocks, she might change her mind later but right now they are undergoing some serious marital crisis.
Their marriage is barely five months (they got married in Dubai in May) but Tiwa can't hold it anymore… she's tired of putting up with Tunji…..
He beats her, etc… So many incredible stories I can't even put here but she's finally ready to call it quit and it all revolves around her money.
Three different sources in their inner circle confirmed this. "it's nothing new abeg. We were shocked when she accepted to marry him, he's been beating her even before he asked her to marry him but love is stupid sometimes .
When she agreed to marry him fine, we said 'okay, do a private and not a big wedding in case things fall apart but they said no… It's money sharing formula that is worrying them ," one of the sources in the circle confidently told me.
However, yesterday was Tunji's birthday and Tiwa is yet to wish her man 'HBD' which is very unusual of her.

Chibok community doubts found girl is from Chibok, says she may be pregnant

The Force Public Relations officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, yesterday September 25th announced that a young girl found at the Mubi area of Borno state on Wednesday September 24th was one of the missing Chibok girls but the National Chairman of the Chibok Association, Dr Pogu Bitrus, is not so sure it's true.
Speaking with TheCable Nigeria, Dr Bitrus, said they are not sure the girl is from their community as her name is not on their list of the missing Chibok girls.
He said a preliminary medical examination conducted in a clinic showed the girl was pregnant but a definitive conclusion on her pregnancy status will be carried out in a proper hospital to confirm
"I was speaking Kibaku to her but she didn't respond. She was incoherent. She may be having mental issues as result of the trauma. When she was picked up, she was taken to a clinic, not a standard hospital where some test were carried out on her. From the test, it was said she is pregnant but that is still in the speculative domain because a qualified doctor has not confirmed she is pregnant. However we are still trying to establish if she is from Chibok because from our sources, the last name of the released girl does not tally with the surname of the person bearing the first name of the released girl captured in our records and whose father is a carpenter in Chibok so we are still trying to work out every detail" he said.

I Disowned My Father – Ramsey Noah Speaks

Nollywood A-list actor,Ramsey Nouah, has finally come to the conclusion that he has no father figure in his life and as such, he does not reckon with the man that abandoned him and his mother when he was a little boy.
Ramsey whose father is apparently a white man going by his complexion, has made good of his life and has shown that such a circumstance should nit stop one from achieving anything he sets his mind to.
In an interview with SaharaTV during a movie shoot, the Nigerian movie lover boy was shown a photo of his alleged siblings and a man who is said to be his father and asked him if he recognizes them.
The actor who seemed angry at the question and the photos, reportedly replied that his mother never told him about any siblings and the man in the picture will never and is not recognized by him as his father, since a man who abandoned an innocent child and the poor mother is never fit to be a father.

Boko Haram: DHQ warns next Shekau to be ready for justice.

ABUJA—Against the backdrop of evidence that Boko Haram commander, Mohammed Bashir, who has been impersonating the late sect leader, Abubakar Shekau in videos was killed on September 17, by Nigerian soldiers, the Defence Headquarters, DHQ,  has warned that any other person or leader who emerges using the name ‘Shekau’ will receive the same treatment. The warning was made just as 135 members of the terrorist group have surrendered to troops in Biu, Mairiga-Buni Yadi as well as Mubi-Michika towns.
Briefing the media on current developments in the Counter Terrorism Campaign yesterday, Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade said, “Since the name Shekau has become a brand name for the terrorists leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria”.
Disclosing that many of the insurgents have been surrendering to the Nigerian troops, Olukolade said, “A total of 135 terrorists on Tuesday evening surrendered with equipment, to troops around Biu local government area. A group of 88 submitted themselves at Mairiga-BuniYadi while another group of 45 terrorists were taken in, around Mubi-Michika”.
He said they are all being interrogated and processed in conformity with the dictates of standard best practices”.
Explaining how the operation was going on, General Olukolade said, “Nigerian troops have been conducting coordinated air and land operations in furtherance of efforts at containing the terrorists in the North East part of the country”.
“Somehow, it became apparent that the terrorists in continuation of their campaign of terror were determined to take over communities around Maiduguri which is their prime target.  There was therefore the need to ensure that communities such as Konduga were protected”.
“It is noteworthy that the terrorists made not less than four attempts between 12 and 17 September 2014 to violate the security and enter Konduga to perpetrate their atrocities.  Air and land forces were subsequently deployed to handle the situation”.
“The convoy of combat vehicles typical of terrorists’ mission that involves their top commanders were fiercely engaged by the land and air forces.  Several of the terrorists including some of their commanders lost their lives in the encounters which lasted an average of about 5 hours each. The troops captured some of the terrorists and their equipment”.
“In the course of those encounters, one Mohammed Bashir who has been acting or posing on videos as the deceased Abubakar Shekau, the eccentric character known as leader of the group died”.
Continuing he said, “Since the name Shekau has become a brand name for the terrorists’ leader, the Nigerian military remains resolute to serve justice to anyone who assumes that designation or title as well as all terrorists that seek to violate the freedom and territory of Nigeria”.
“On restoring normalcy after the encounter, inhabitants of the community who were victims of terrorists activities corroborated information on the identity of Bashir Mohammed alias Abubakar Shekau; alias Abacha Abdullahi Geidam; alias Damasack; etc.  Indeed, the recent devastation on the leadership of the insurgents is attributable to the renewed commitment to the mission of eradicating terrorism in our country”.
“Meanwhile, a total of 135 terrorists have yesterday evening surrendered along with equipment to troops around Biu Local Government Area.  A group of 88 submitted themselves at Mairiga/Bun – Yadi while another group of 45 terrorists were taken in around Mubi – Michika.  They are all being interrogated and processed in conformity with the dictates of standard best practices”.
“The Defence Headquarters applauds the gallantry of the Nigerian troops who have remained undaunted and professional in prosecuting this campaign against terror. The keen interest exhibited by our neighbours and allies is commendable and we appreciate them”.
“All allies in the war against terrorism are hereby assured of the Nigerian military’s resolve to maintain momentum in the efforts to decimate and defeat terrorists. The invaluable efforts toward achieving sustainable peace and victory against the terrorists are highly appreciated”.
“It is nevertheless necessary to alert all citizens that there is still the need for even more vigilance and cooperation with the security forces.  Everybody is required to remain alert to ensure that we are not taken unawares by terrorist elements who might want to carry-out isolated attacks in any part of our country”.
On the true position of the Chibok girls presently, the DDI said all efforts were still ongoing to secure the release of the girls noting that the military will not relent until the girls are secured.
Asked to comment of allegations by Cameroonian military authorities that they were responsible for the death of the imposter Shekau, Olukolade said, “To the best of our knowledge, we can say categorically that no foreign force of any type penetrated our country’s borders up to Konduga which is just about 35 kilometers to Maiduguri”.
On the situation in Bama and Gwoza, the DDI said, “I want to repeat what the Defence headquarters have been saying all along. We have not conceded any part of this country and we won’t do so. All these areas still remain part and parcel of our operational areas and the operation is still ongoing”.
On why Nigerian troops were now having upper hand over the terrorists in the battle, Olukolade said, “Training and more training has been going on; equipment and more equipment has been coming in. It will keep coming in. There is also a new resolve to deal with all these nonsense once and for all”. Updated by Anex119

Between the Pastor and the General Overseer: Nigeria’s moral burden.

THE past week has not been a fine one for the rightwing Pentecostal Christian movement in Nigeria. And by extension, the moral burden of Nigeria’s  ruling class and all our compatriots who swear loyalty to these two sets in our nation’s firmament, also got heavier.
Almost as if coordinated, two heavy scandals fell on the laps of two of the most notable representatives of rightwing Pentecostalism that have shaken their sureties in the most profound manner, exposing the serious moral dilemma associated with the scandals of the past couple of days. Early last week the report broke that two unnamed Nigerians and an Israeli security contractor based in Abuja, were held in South Africa, for attempting to illegally import into South Africa the sum of $9. 3million in cash.
The said sum of money was allegedly packed in three suitcases and had been ferried into South Africa in a Bombadier Challenger 600 aircraft. It turned out that the plane in question belonged to the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. It is not only the prominent position that he occupies as the leader of Christendom in Nigeria that was brought under sharp focus as a result of the embarrassing story from South Africa, but his place as the expression of Aso Villa-at-prayer or more explicitly, the religious arm of the Jonathan presidency, added fuel to the scandal.
By Wednesday last week, a thoroughly compromised Nigerian government sloppily announced to their South African counterparts that the seized money was to procure arms on behalf of the Nigerian security services. It seemed that the South Africans were not convinced by the explanation with their authorities being quoted as saying the explanations were “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”.
Consequently, the Asset Forfeiture Unit of the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) of South Africa obtained a court order to freeze the money, because the illegal importation had breached the country’s laws that dealt with transfer of foreign exchange of such proportion.
The NPA further showed that Tier One Services Group, the company that the Nigerian government claimed to be procuring arms from, was neither authorized to sell nor rent military hardware. The Nigerian government’s explanation was hogwash! Tier One Services Group apparently issued an invoice to a Cyprus-based company, ESD International Group Ltd., in respect of the procurement of armaments and helicopters for delivery to Nigeria.
But South African investigators said the time the invoice was prepared and the time money was brought into their country “threw up some serious issues of intent”, according to VANGUARD newspaper of September 18, 2014.
Nigeria’s image was brought to an all-time low by the incident but people seemed more shocked by the connection of the CAN President, Pastor Oritsejafor, with the episode, no matter how tangentially, and despite his denial and the spirited defence of his position by some commentators. In a statement, signed on his behalf, by one Bayo Adewoye, it was stated that “we can confirm that he holds an interest in Eagle Air Company, the aircraft in question is not operated by Pastor Oritsejafor”. It added further that: “the aircraft has been leased to and is operated by Green Coast Produce Limited”. What is conveniently forgotten here was that when faceless members of his church donated the aircraft to him, Oritsejafor had stated that it was for the purpose of doing God’s work.
But the lease out of the plane didn’t resemble anything spiritual; pardon my ignorance of these matters, but it appeared more like the service of mammon: at least in the moment that it was caught ferrying money illegally into South Africa. And when efforts have been made to excuse the illegality, what came to mind is the level of outrage that would have been deliberately generated, if the plane had belonged to the Sultan of Sokoto, and two Northern Muslims and a Saudi citizen (for example!) had been caught ferrying such sums around the world! Those who have defended Pastor Oritsejafor, like Femi Fani-Kayode, would have ratcheted up anti-Northern and anti-Muslim hysteria, while calling for the breakup of Nigeria, as he regularly does!
And to show the level of ruling class irresponsibility, the House of Representatives could not even probe the issue, when it sat on Tuesday this week. A voice vote was enough to kill the plan to examine the scandal. The “Honourable” members preferred that Nigeria was smeared and brought to disrepute abroad, than the truth of the situation be brought out in the open. The individuals caught up in the illegality are far more important than Nigeria!
The mess is even more criminally obvious in the culpability associated with the collapse of  a building in Lagos, that belonged to Senior Pastor TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations. As I write these lines on Tuesday night, the death toll has climbed up to 115 people. South African President, Jacob Zuma, in response to the tragedy, told his grieving country that: “Not in the recent history of our country have we had this large number of our people die in one incident outside the country”.
South Africa’s SUNDAY TIMES newspaper of September 21, 2014, incredibly reported how chaos, incompetence, lies and the refusal of Pastor TB Joshua’s church and the Nigerian authorities to cooperate in the rescue attempt, all conspired to deepen the tragedy.
While TB Joshua preferred to tell the absurd story of a mystery plane which hovered over the building and the story took a more bizarre turn, with allegations of an attack by Boko Haram, the authorities in Lagos state, through the Commissioner for Physical Planning, Toyin Ayinde, had revealed that the 5-storey building had no government approval for its construction. Similarly, Ibrahim Farinloye, of NEMA, pointed out, that church officials prevented rescuers from accessing the church: “some of us were even attacked (by church members)”. The church members were also hostile to journalists and smashed at least one television camera.
Farinloye was quoted by SA’s SUNDAY TIMES as saying that rescuers lost the two or three critical hours immediately after a disaster when most lives are saved.
It was amazing that two days after the collapse and with casualties mounting, TB Joshua was telling the congregation on Sunday that: “they were trying to scare you from coming to this church. Don’t be scared, you are not the target, I am the target. I know my hour has not yet come”. As the report added, it took him 30 minutes into the televised sermon, before he mentioned the dead!
And to underline TB Joshua’s far-reaching influence, the Lagos state governor who visited the church, disappeared through a backdoor, in order to avoid the media.
Similarly, President Goodluck Jonathan, with an eye on the 2015 elections, visited TB Joshua at the weekend. It was more important to be on TB Joshua’s side than to demand justice for the 115 people who died as the tragic episode was shrouded in mumbo-jumbo, about a “mysterious plane hovering” and an alleged Boko Haram attack.
This is the sorry pass that our country has been taken today, by an alliance of obscurantism; a coterie of rightwing religious bodies and their incredibly rich pastors, primates, overseers (as we have seen in these two different but interrelated scandals) and our irresponsible and unpatriotic ruling elite!
This alliance resides at the lowest moral depth of society, because on the one hand, the rightwing nonspecialists exploit a genuine spiritual need amongst Nigerians, who are caught up in the soulless world of neoliberal capitalist uncertainty inhabited by the demons and principalities of poverty, underdevelopment, insecurities, violence and economic deprivation. On the other hand, they are in cahoots with a ruling elite whose choices have largely fostered the hopelessness that the Pentecostal denizens exploit.
They are the two sides of oppression for the Nigerian people and so need and reinforce each other constantly and therefore carry the same moral burdens. It should therefore not surprise us, if the lives lost at General Overseer, TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations, end up counting for nothing and never find justice; just as they are spiritedly sweeping under the carpet, the illegal ferrying of $9.3million in Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s plane.
These are scared cows living above the laws of the land; furthermore, they are friends of President Goodluck Jonathan and will shortly be expected to carry out important spiritual assignments, for Jonathan’s 2015 re-election project. That is why they DON’T GIVE A DAMN that lives were lost or monies were illegally exported from Nigeria!
The Scotland referendum
I STAYED awake all-night last Thursday, watching the returns of the Scottish Referendum. It attracted worldwide interest, because what was on the line was the 300-year old union that is the United Kingdom.
It is true that for the two years leading to the referendum, most polls had predicted that the NO votes would prevail. But in the two weeks before the vote, a SUNDAY TIMES poll in London had put the YES vote ahead, for the first time. And alarm bells were pressed within the political circles of the United Kingdom. The SUNDAY TIMES is owned by Rupert Murdoch, the rightwing media mogul, who has an axe to grind with the British establishment in London.
He had openly supported the YES vote for Scottish Independence. The final days led to the most feverish political maneuver as both sides made a desperate effort to woo those who had not committed one way or the other.
The Scottish Referendum caught the imagination of the world, because the outcome, especially if the YES vote had prevailed, would have had far-reaching consequences for many countries around the world. A YES victory would have strengthened secessionist forces around the world. In Nigeria, the open and closet secessionists would have become emboldened and there was no gainsaying the fact that they would have stepped up their agitation into the future, presenting such Scottish outcome as a vindication of their platform.
It was the same attitude that was ratcheted up, when South Sudan broke from a united Republic of Sudan, until the tragic civil war, premised upon the vicious ethnic rivalries and leadership irresponsibility, gave them the pause around the continent.
I was very delighted that the NO votes prevailed in Scotland, just as I was happy that there would be newer constitutional tinkering to devolve greater autonomy within the United Kingdom. Similarly, the fact that the issue was resolved democratically, spoke for the deepening of democracy around the world, but in Nigeria in particular. A united United Kingdom speaks for unity in our country, badly governed now, but with incredible possibilities for liberation and development, into the future. Updated by Anex119.
